Case Study
A contractor with multiple business partners and entities was struggling with disorganization and a lack of clarity in his tax filings. Despite his complex structure, no CPA had ever helped him map things out, leaving him with a disjointed approach that made filing overwhelming and inefficient.
We performed a legal entity optimization, reorganizing and simplifying his business structure to make tax filing much more efficient. By streamlining his entities and providing a clear tax plan, we helped him gain the clarity he desperately needed to navigate his complex financial landscape.
With the new tax plan and optimized structure, the client now enjoys a much more straightforward and efficient tax filing process. He has clearer financials, reduced administrative complexity, and greater peace of mind knowing his tax strategy is aligned with his business goals.
Case Study
The client is a used car dealership co-owned by two partners, structured as an S corporation with a small team of employees. Like many profitable business owners, they had a CPA who filed accurate returns every year, but no one had ever built a forward-looking tax plan with them. A profitable dealership throws off real income, which means real tax exposure across the S corp and each owner’s personal return. Without proactive planning, that income was taxed at the highest marginal rates with no structure in place to soften it. With two owners rather than one, the missed opportunity was effectively doubled.
RainwaterCPA built a full tax plan covering the dealership and each owner’s individual return. Because entity-level strategies apply per owner-employee and each owner also has an individual return, the plan was effectively built twice, once for each owner. On the individual side, we identified a syndicated solar tax credit investment, a donor-advised fund contribution strategy, and a traditional 401(k) structured for maximum deduction. On the business side, we layered in an accountable plan for reimbursing out-of-pocket business expenses, the Augusta Rule, a qualified employee achievement award program, hiring-related and fringe benefit strategies, and business-sponsored health insurance and retirement plan design.
The plan produced $45,860 in combined same-year tax savings across both owners, split as $22,930 per owner between individual and S corp strategies. Because the strategies were built to recur, the plan delivered again in year two, rising to a projected $47,172 combined without additional lift. Reinvested monthly through retirement, those recurring savings carry a projected combined retirement impact of more than $5 million, over $2.7 million per owner. The owners did not change their business or take on more risk. They had a plan built before the return was due instead of reacting to it afterward, and because it was built around each owner individually, the impact scaled with the ownership structure.
